Carson City is located in Los Angeles County, California approximately 20 miles to the north is downtown Los Angeles, 2.5 miles from Torrance, CA and 7.1 miles from Long Beach. Carson has a population of 89,730 and is primarily a manufacturing community. About half of its land mass is taken up by factories, refineries, and other industrial structures. After decades of existence as an unincorporated community of Los Angeles County, Carson was incorporated as a city in 1968 . Citizens chose the name of their new city as Carson the alternative name of Dominguez.
